The Oakland Ironworks District is a mixed-use office and retail redevelopment linking Jack London Square to downtown Oakland. Metrovation’s projects in the neighborhood include redevelopments of former industrial structures. We have emphasized the historic characteristics of each of our projects.
The Ironworks District attracts the creative enterprises of the Bay Area. Our tenants include architects, art galleries, museum designers, graphics and advertising businesses, recycling and green consultants, and non-profits.
The Ironworks is at the center of the Bay Area’s transportation nexus, easily accessible to major Bay Area highways, Amtrak, BART, the ferry, bicycle trails, and local busses.
Oakland Ironworks Building | Oakland, CA
Metrovation began developing the Ironworks District in 1984. Our first project was the distinctive 1886 Oakland Ironworks Building, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
We retained the original roof line of the Ironworks during development. The resulting project is approximately 50,000 square feet of office, retail and gallery space characterized by visible 12 X12 solid timber and steel structural elements and the original bow-string trusses. Twenty-foot high ceilings, skylights, and spacious hallways make the Ironworks especially appealing to the creative businesses we have attracted to the area. The Ironworks' six-foot tall windows look out over Second Street onto the Oakland Estuary and the Port of Oakland.
The ground floor of the Ironworks includes one of the first Bed Bath & Beyond stores as well as studios and galleries representing the Bay Area’s vibrant art community.
